Manhattan Laminates

Founded in 1982, the company has grown into one of the largest distributors of woodworking supplies in the New York metro area, and remains the only full-line distributor in Manhattan. In 2014, a new location on Long Island was added. Conveniently located showrooms and warehouses in Manhattan, Queens and Long Island, a fleet delivery trucks and a huge selection of quality laminates, adhesives, hardware, coatings and woodworking accessories makes Manhattan Laminates the first choice for architects, designers, fabricators, contractors, set & scenic designers and woodworkers.

History

Master Millwork Industries

Master Millwork opened its doors shortly after World War II as a distributor of specialty millwork and moldings. In the early 1980’s, Master Millwork became a distributor for Formica Corporation, and shortly thereafter phased out its millwork business to focus exclusively on Formica brand products and woodworking supplies. In 1991, Mechanics Building Materials purchased Master Millwork.

Mechanics Building Materials

Mechanics was established in 1921 by Harry Schwartz as “Mechanics Lumber.” In 1941, the company became the very first Formica Corporation distributor. Over the years, Mechanics Lumber evolved to become Mechanics Building Materials – carrying kitchen appliances, metal moldings, SeamFil, wood tape and stainless steel sinks, in addition to Formica brand laminate and flake board.

Mechanics Building Materials was acquired by Manhattan Laminates in 2006.
